grooming, pictures and pumpkins

Today Zoe got groomed for the first time....I had a mobile grooming van come to the house. A lady that lives down the street from us just started her own business called "Goin' to the Dogs" a mobile grooming van. Zoe was a little nervous at first but when she was all done (an hour and a half later) she looked great and was all excited! I opened the front door to take the check to the groomer and Zoe barged out the front door and jumped right back into the van....I guess she liked her bath!!! She is so funny!!!
Here she is all pretty and clean....and happy...can't you tell?!?Then we went to the mall to have the boys Christmas pictures taken..we were the only family there taking Christmas pictures...most people were taking Halloween costume pictures. They are procrastinators and I am SO TOTALLY NOT!!! LOL!!! The pictures turned out so cute! I am surprised too bc getting 2 kids to co-operate at the same time is not an easy task! I plan to use the pictures for my Christmas cards..so you will just have to wait to see them...sorry!

So when we got home from the mall...it was time to carve the pumpkin...UGGGHHH! Javi and I were both dreading doing it...and he had to work late so it was all up to me...

I think I did a pretty good job for a quickie pumpkin carving!
While I was making dinner and getting things ready to carve...I let Trey paint his little pumpkin. He did it all by himself! I opened a book to give him some ideas but he did this 100% by himself with no help from me. I think he did such a great job!!!

Crazy Hair Day

Today the boys had their Halloween party at school. It was "crazy hair" day. When I asked Trey a couple days ago what he wanted to do to his hair on crazy hair day, he said he wanted me to paint it blue and green. So I got blue hair spray (but not green). This morning I woke up extra early so I could do his hair...I just brushed it out to make it big and frizzy and sprayed it blue....we when he looked in the mirror he freaked out and said, "Get it out, everyone is gonna laugh at me!" while he was rubbing his hair to remove the blue paint! I was kinda frustrated and mad since it was his idea to spray paint his hair blue in the first place! He wanted to take a shower to get the color out of his hair. I told him I would do Talan's hair too and that seemed to make him feel better and then he was okay with it...whew, thank god!!! I barely had enough time to do his hair in the first place, giving him a shower and started the morning all over would have made me REALLY late to work!

Talan was a little grouchy this morning...can you tell? He wouldn't let me take his pacifier out to take these pictures (what a surprise).

At school they made these really cute spider hats....

Talan wouldn't keep his on...huh another surprise...he's so co-operative! LOL!!!

Now let me tell you about my "Martha Stewart gone wrong" Halloween treat idea...cute little chocolate candy bar spiders. They looked so cute and simple to make in the recipe book...why is it that nothing in those books is ever as easy as it seems??? I sat down Tuesday night to make these cute little critters and everything went wrong. The chocolate was melting in my fingers, the pretzels were breaking in the wrong places so I would waste like 3 pretzels to make one measly spider leg (each spider needed 6...I know spiders have 8 legs but that's what the recipe called for), I tried to get the chocolate bars cold so they wouldn't melt, then when I tried to stick the pretzels in for legs, the chocolate started cracking and crumbling. It was a total mess and they weren't looking as cute as they did in the pictures...SHOCKER!!! I was so upset I just gave up after 4!!!! I was really disappointed bc I had this idea planned out to make these for the party today for weeks...I even bought this cute little platter for the spiders to go on for display...

Then after I had accepted the fact that it was going to be WAY too hard to make 15 of these little guys...Trey reminded me today after school that I stink as a Martha Stewart mom!!! He said "Mom, we didn't get the spiders that you made at school today" and I said "that's bc I never finished making them"...GGGRRRRR!!!!! Oh well, maybe next year...

Trey's first coach pitch game

Trey has his first "coach pitch" baseball game today and he did really good! Trey is still a little young to be playing coach pitch (the ages are 5-7 and he is still 4) but after our terrible experience with his coach last season in t-ball, we decided to move him up to be on his old coaches team again...and we love it! Here is Trey at his first at bat...

and this is him on first after his hit! All the parents on the team always comment on his smile...and how they never see him without a smile on his face! Today when he turned and looked at me for this picture, one of the dad's said to me "I bet you never have to tell him to say cheese".

Here are a couple more pictures of him playing first base.

Talan had fun too...at least until he fell face first into the stroller and got a big bump and a cut on the side of his head! Sheesh this kid is gonna give me some SERIOUS gray hair!!! Here is a video of him now that he has mastered walking! I just love to watch him walk around...so cute!

my poor baby....AGAIN!!!

For those who don't already know, Talan is sick again! He had a little fever on Sunday and I just assumed it was his molars that are coming in. He did pull on his ears 2 or 3 times too so I thought maybe he had an ear infection starting. Then he woke up a fever again on Monday morning (100.8) so I figured I should probably take him to the doctor to have him checked out even though his only symptom was the fever other than that he seemed pretty normal to us. So we took him to the doctor and she said she thought it might be the H1N1 virus (swine flu) and Javi and I were both like.."WHAT!?!" that was the last thing that I thought it could possibly be but she wanted to test him bc if it was the virus, she wanted to get him on the medicine (Tamiflu) right away. So they swabbed his nose and 5 minutes later....the test was POSITIVE!!! My poor little baby is sick again with the swine flu!!!! Thank god we took him in when we did and his doctor caught it in time bc last night I was reading about the Tamiflu that he is taking and it says that if its started early enough, it actually stops the virus! And it seems like it has bc he doesn't even have a fever anymore. We will still be home with him for the rest of the week and we are all being very careful and CLEAN so hopefully no one else in the house gets sick!

The signs of the H1N1 virus aren't like the seasonal flu. The main symptoms are fever and a cough. Not vomiting and diarrhea like most people associate with the flu. However Talan never even had a cough. If I learned one valuable thing from this....its that I will never hesitate to take my kids to the doctor even if I think "it's not a big deal"!!!

new haircut and batman tent

We gave Talan another haircut tonight. The last time we did it, I decided it might be easier to use Javi's clippers instead of scissors...I was so right! But we didn't know which guard to use since we had never cut Talan's hair with the clippers before. We decided to start high just in case and we used a #7. It was cute but needed to be shorter...in a week it was grown out and he needed another haircut...it was especially long around and behind his ears. So tonight when we were getting started, Javi said we should start with a #5 and I said NO WAY...at least a #4 if not a #3...because I didn't want to have to cut it again in a week! Have I mentioned that Talan is a difficult baby?!?! So Javi put the #4 on and I started cutting. He was sooo mad at me!!! You should have heard him...the funny thing is that he does the same thing (completely freaks out) every time I cut either of the boys hair! I admit that we should have used the #5 but it turned out cuter than I thought when I was cutting...to be honest, I was freaking out a little myself but I was too busy laughing at Javi's reaction to worry at the time. It's a little short but he's still adorable!!!
After dinner I was putting clothes away and saw the batman tent that we haven't built since Trey's 4th birthday in the hotel room in California. I decided to surprise him and build the tent for him....he was so excited...and so was Talan!!! Talan was driving Trey nuts and him yelling at his little brother to stop was in turn, driving me nuts!!! So I got a few cute pictures of them both in the tent together but don't let the smiles fool you, it was mostly fighting and yelling!
Then I put Talan in bed so Trey could enjoy his tent. He got all geared up and is having a blast playing without his little brother bothering him.
Oh that reminded me of something that happened earlier this morning. Talan likes to walk around the house swinging one of Trey's plastic golf clubs. He's dangerous! Well today he whacked Trey right in the forehead with it and Trey started crying! He kept saying "Talan is such a mean baby!" Little does Trey know that his "baby brother" is going to grow up to be bigger than him and I bet he even bullies Trey around a little.....

should I be worried?

Should I be worried that Talan's favorite thing to get into is my nail polish box? Today he was very quiet (and we all know what happens when babies are being quiet) so I walked over to him and this is what I found.....

Zoe was right along with him getting into trouble...notice she is chewing on my nail buffer! LOL!!!

sorry for the sideways video :)

I am such a bad mom and blogger! Talan has been officially walking for about a week now and I haven't even blogged about it! Tonight he was being his normal "monster-like" self and thought is was so funny to walk up to this tower and destroy it by knocking all of the little buckets over. He would do it and then crack up laughing...it was pretty cute! I grabbed my camera to catch him walking...but apparently you shouldn't hold your camera vertically while recording a video...I apologize that you have to watch it holding your head or turning your computer screen sideways...

Almost there...

It shouldn't be long now...Talan has been standing up on his own in the middle of the room and taking a few steps. He still prefers crawling but I'm hoping that walking will be his prefered method of getting around real soon! He's such a BIG BOY!!!!
